Let’s just begin by saying that I started blogging during the end of 2014. I had the awesome support from another blogger who I met through my local mom’s groups. (Thank you We’re Parents!) After about a week of blogging (or maybe I should say pulling-my-hair-out while trying to set up my blog), my friend sent me a link to sign up for Blogger Bash 2015. I opened it, and read that Blogger Bash will help set up “the next tier” in my development. WAIT, WHAT!?!? Next tier, I didn’t even have my first post up yet. And to top it off, the cost for a basic ticket was $125 with the 40% discount for signing up early. Thank goodness my motivation for starting my blog in the first place was my children, because their four little eyes looking up at me told me to take the next step. Nervously I posted these….
Boy am I glad I did!
Here is my PSA for the evening: ATTENTION ALL BLOGGERS!! If you are a blogger who is remotely thinking about going to Blogger Bash. DO SO! It was amazing!! I can’t say enough about the event. First of all, if you are thinking, “Well, she was 6 months into blogging, I’ll only be ____ months.” Stop right there, I had a massive family emergency arise during my first 6 months of blogging and things were pushed to the back (back) burner.
Fast forward to July and I showed up at Blogger Bash 2015 as a newbie newbie! I knew no one. The only two bloggers that I knew in life were not going. I made my travel plans, “booked” my room (a.k.a. crashed with an Awesome Friend whom I hadn’t seen in 10 years), and showed up in the BIG APPLE alone and quite nervous. [Check out my NYC traveling tips coming soon!] Thank goodness I didn’t chicken out! I had an awesome time. It was more like a vacation (a long tiring awesome vacation) then work.
Here are my top 10 reasons I want to share about WHY you need to sign up for blogger bash:
#10 Motivation – You just paid $125 for a conference, did you not? You have lodging and travel to set up on top of that, right? Well then, you better get to work! Get those keys clicking and get posting! It will be well worth it in the end!
#9 Food – I am a foodie. My husband and I travel to eat, and eat when we travel. Let me tell you, I should have taken more photos because everything was top notch! I won’t bore you with details, but lets just say, you get way more than your money’s worth just in food!
#8 Entertainment – Wow, can Blogger Bash put on a good show! Blue Man Group, the singer, Brian Vander Ark, and a full blow Carnival! We are talking contortionists and champagne being poured from the ceiling! There was never a dull moment.
#7 Giveaways – Talking about spoiled here! The sponsors of this event are there to network with you. They want you to try their companies Hottest New Toys! We are talking toys that haven’t been released on the market yet! It was so cool. Sweet Suite 15 was every child’s dream and a blogger’s dream come true. You literally wine, dine, and play with toys all night! I brought home so many cool things. And I haven’t even seen the box of swag that is being mailed home! I literally filled an empty suitcase and then some. So pack light and carry a big bag! (And don’t forget the motivation this gives you when you get home to write more posts about all this cool stuff!) [Not sure what to pack… Packing list coming soon!]
#6 Prizes – Gift cards and toys and vacations! OH MY! Prizes are there to be won! Enter to win and you may be pleasantly surprised that you won! I had two big winners!
#5 Social networking – Followers, friends, and family. Your blog will grow on social media. I had more retweets, followers, likes, and comments in the last few weeks then I have had in the whole history of my blog. My name is getting out there and my hashtag #natorgparent is spreading! [If you haven’t already, check out my social links at the top of this page and follow me on social media!]
#4 Networking opportunities – Attention Newbies: Don’t be scared by terms like “elevator pitch”, “unique monthly visitors”, and “media kits”. It’s ok! Just make sure to arrive with some business cards (no matter how simple) and a pen! The rest is easy. [Check out my newbie networking tips coming soon!] All you have to do is smile, be confident & honest, and have fun. Opportunities will arise. We are about 48 hours out from Blogger Bash and I have not set up any 5 star affiliations yet, but I have faith that I will set up some in the near future.
#3 Build confidence – I promise you will not be alone at Blogger Bash. You will meet someone just like you. Just be sure to strike up conversations. Start with, “Hi, I’m _______.” They will respond with their name. (I promise!) Then say, “So what do you blog about?” Instant conversation started. I promise, it is as easy as those 9 words. “Hi, I’m ______. So what do you blog about?” I met my “blogging twin” moments into the first day. She was traveling alone, was a newbie, was also slightly nervous, and only lives about 30 minutes from my home! How awesome is that! We just continued to help each other throughout the weekend. Check out her blog too!
#2 Validity – You gain the feeling of being an official blogger. Not only personally, but through the eyes of other people too. Many people think blogging is “just a hobby”. But when you tell them you are attending a “blogging conference in NYC”, suddenly they hold your views more important than before. Now I know in the end it doesn’t matter what other people think, but when you are starting out, every little bit of positive praise helps!
#1 Community & Friendships – I have to say I can count on one hand the number of bloggers with whom I thought were rude or unfriendly. I met hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds) of people in those few days. Honestly, less than 5 people were negative. That says something about the blogging community. I can’t wait to continue these friendships. Speaking of, I’d like to give a shout out to a few more ladies who really helped me feel at home:
